British broadcaster ITN is to open an ITV News bureau in Dubai, according to a report in the Guardian newspaper.
The new bureau will be run by the broadcaster’s new international correspondent John Irvine, who will cover news from across the Gulf region, Indian subcontinent and Africa.
It is the company’s first new overseas operation since the opening of its China bureau in 2006. “The strategic decision to open the Dubai bureau will improve our longer-term newsgathering and ability to get teams on the ground for breaking stories in a wide area from Pakistan to Southern Africa,” ITV News deputy editor, Jonathan Munro, told the paper.
The broadcaster is also closing its South Africa bureau in Johannesburg, according to the report.
